A CHAMPIONSHIP footballer has been banned from driving for a year after speeding in Worcester.

Bradley Dack, who plays as a midfielder for Blackburn Rovers, was given a 'totting up ban' because he already had 14 points on his licence.

The 27-year-old was caught doing 68mph in a 60mph limit in a Land Rover on the M5 in Worcester on June 28 last year. He was given three points for that offence.

Worcester Magistrates Court heard he was caught speeding between junctions 6 and 5.

Dack pleaded guilty and the case was proved by single justice procedure last month, on February 5, which is where motoring offences can be dealt with at court without the defendant having to appear.

On Friday, March 19, Dack received the ban and was fined £146.

Dack, of Beetham Tower, Deansgate, Manchester, was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £34, and costs of £90.

The ban is more bad news for Dack who earlier this month suffered a serious knee injury which is likely to keep him out of the game for the foreseeable future.

The player was described as 'the life and soul of the football club' by the Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray after he suffered the painful anterior cruciate ligament injury on March 12 against Brentford.
