A COUNCILLOR is looking for volunteers to start a new ‘Friends of Droitwich Spa Railway Station’ group and said the county council is working on a 'master plan for the station.

Droitwich councillor Richard Morris, of Wychavon District Council, said Worcestershire County Council is working on a summer 'master plan' for Droitwich railway station as there is likely to be increased rail provision at the station.

Cllr Morris is aiming to establish the friends group to work with the Worcestershire Community Rail Partnership, West Midlands Trains, and interested partners to improve the station as a gateway for visitors to the town.

He said the group will also look at enhancing the station heritage, provide input into Worcestershire County Council's 'master plan' to include parking and refurbishment, provide opportunities for volunteering at the station and work with West Midlands Trains on developing the services serving the station.

Cllr Morris said: "The group will consist of volunteers who will look after the station, and also look at some of the heritage buildings, and we have two or three at the Droitwich station, so we'll look at those buildings and try to safeguard and enhance them.

"The aim is to add to the satisfaction for people travelling in and out of Droitwich."

Cllr Morris said the group will hope to alleviate some of parking pressure and the issue of commuters parking in residential areas.

He added: "Please let me know if you are interested and in what capacity and area of interest by emailing richard.morris@wychavon.net.

"I will look to hold an initial meeting on zoom shortly.

"Support confirmed from Droitwich Spa Town Council through the Community and Amenities Committee .

"Support is also confirmed from Worcestershire County Council and Wychavon District Council."

More details on the council's master plan are expected to be announced soon.
