A MAN accused of murder and attempted murder is due to appear at Worcester Crown Court this afternoon.

Charles Byrne first court appearance was at Kidderminster Magistrates Court last Friday over the two matters, murder and attempted murder.

He is accused of murdering Christina Rowe and attempting to murder another person, who cannot be named for legal reasons. Both charges relate to offences which happened in the city on February 10.

24 year-old Byrne did not enter a plea and spoke only to confirm his name last Friday.

Today's appearance, set for court 1 of the city court, is listed as a preliminary hearing.

Byrne was arrested on February 10 as police in Worcester put cordons in place across the city.

He was charged with murder and attempted murder late on February 11 after Miss Rowe's body was found.

Elsewhere in court today an inmate accused of attempting to murder a prison officer in Worcestershire is set for his latest court appearance.

David Bieber, also known as Nathan Wayne Coleman, 52, is accused of the attempted murder of Alison Smith following an incident at HMP Long Lartin.

The case has been heavily delayed, Bieber having previously been due to face trial last April.

The hearing is listed as a for mention case, with a trial assessment to take place, and the defendant is not required to attend.

Not all cases that appear on the list are of interest to the public or press. They include bail applications, administrative hearings and mentions.

One of the courts, court room 2, is remote which means parties including barristers and defendants appear over videolink rather than in person. Many of court room 2 cases are administrative hearings.
