AN alleged racially aggravated assault case is due to be heard by Worcester magistrates today as a murder trial enters its final stages at the city's crown court.
Tegan Downes, 23, of Sherrards Green Road, Malvern is due to appear at Worcester Magistrates Court today following what is said to be a racist attack in Worcester.
She is charged with racially / religiously aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm, the offence alleged to have taken place in the city on September 5 last year.

Downes is also charged with racially / religiously aggravated harassment / alarm / distress by words / writing on the same date.
During the offence she is said by the prosecution to have used threatening or abusive words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress, thereby. The offence was also said to have been racially aggravated.
At Worcester Crown Court the Redditch murder trial is nearing its conclusion as Judge James Burbidge QC summed up the case to the jury following prosecution and defence closing speeches. As previously reported, Colton Bryan, 22, was stabbed to death inside his flat in Guinness Close, Redditch shortly after 9.30pm on July 15 last year.
Adam Carpenter, 21, of Wharrington Hill, Redditch, Faisal Fiaz, 21, of Millsbro Road, Redditch and Mohammed Saddam Hussain, 25, of Oakfield Avenue, Birmingham are on trial at Worcester Crown Court. All three men deny murder and conspiracy to rob.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Hammed Hussain, the brother of defendant Mohammed Saddam Hussain, left the country, boarding the first available flight to Pakistan after the stabbing.
The stabbing involved a large hunting knife nine inches long. Hammad Hussain is still being sought by the authorities in connection with the alleged murder.
Mr Bryan was stabbed five times - once to the left arm, once to the back and three times to the chest.
Also at Crown, a plea hearing is taking place in the case of Steven Doran while the sentence of Derek Chamberlaine is due to take place at noon. The sentence of Quamran Ali is also due to take place this morning at Crown.
Other cases at magistrates include that of Freya Brierley Jones, 22, who is accused of being more than twice the drink drive limit in Deansway, Worcester on Christmas Eve last year.
Jones of Brighton Grove, Hereford, was stopped by police driving her Renault Clio. According to the charge, a reading of 72mcg of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath was recorded. This is more than twice the legal limit of 35mcg.
Jade Marie Hughes, 29, of Carlisle Road, Ronkswood, Worcester, is due up for theft and attempt theft offences from shops.
On January 8 this year she is said to have stolen a Henry Hoover to the value of £99, belonging to Tesco stores in Worcester.
Hughes is also alleged to have attempted to steal groceries to the value of £323 from Lidl in Droitwich on November 6 last year and attempting to steal £795 of groceries from Tesco in Worcester on New Year's Eve last year.
Linked to this case is that of Daniel James Tyler of Lichfield Avenue, Worcester.
The 46-year-old is charged with handling stolen goods on January 8 this year at Worcester.
It is said by the prosecution that Tyler 'dishonestly undertook or assisted in the retention, removal, disposal or realisation of stolen goods (a Henry hoover) to the value of £99, belonging to Tesco stores.
He also stands accused of the theft of pedal cycle worth £450 on October 6 last year.
Tyler is also accused of possessing a knife in a public place (St Peter's Drive, Worcester) on January 8 this year.
Also due in court is Harry Smith, 31, of Chedworth Drive, Warndon, Worcester who is charged with being drunk and disorderly in a public place on Christmas Eve last year.
Another case set to be heard is that of Liam Oliver, 20, who is charged with refusing to comply with a direction to leave an area of Worcester.
The charge is that Oliver of Upper Ashley Street, Halesowen, failed to comply with a section 35 direction excluding a person from an area in Worcester on December 19 last year.
The order was made under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.
