AFTER the Worcester News last week launched the Worcestershire Health and Social Care Awards 2021, we look back at when a pregnant mum won our Care Hero prize in December 2020.

On Friday, we kicked off the 2021 Worcestershire Health and Social Care Awards, which are run by Newsquest’s Worcestershire titles, including the Worcester News, Malvern Gazette and Evesham Journal.

The aim of the awards is to champion those teams and individuals that have gone above and beyond the call of duty to care for people during the Covid pandemic. There are 12 categories, and finalists will be chosen by a panel of experts and the winners will be announced at a virtual awards ceremony broadcast live on our website and social media channels in April.

One of the categories included is The Care Hero Award.

Amelia Trivett, who cares for individuals with life-limiting or terminal illnesses, won a similar award last year when she was named the Worcester News’ Worcestershire Care Hero 2020.

That award celebrated the efforts of carers throughout the county during the pandemic.

After winning the award in December, Amelia told the Worcester News: “It feels so lovely to have won, I feel really grateful."

Amelia, who lives in Hampton near Evesham with her son Edward and partner Jack, works as a carer for a company called Priceless Care, and during the pandemic she worked seven nights a week for six months, caring for one family.

She was nominated by Lucy Hodson, a former co-worker and friend.

The 2021 Health and Social Care Awards are supported by MPs Robin Walker (Worcester), Harriett Baldwin (West Worcestershire) and Nigel Huddleston (Mid Worcestershire).

The categories are: The Health Care Team Award, The Care Hero Award, The Care Home Worker Award, The Care Trainer Award, The Health Care Employer Award, Domiciliary Care Worker Award, The Good Nurse Award, Adolescent and Child Health Care Award, The Dementia Carer Award, The Palliative/ End of Life Care Award, The Mental Health Award, and the GP Practice of the Year Award.
