Meanwhile, Mohammed Hammed Hussain, the brother of defendant Mohammed Saddam Hussain, left the country after the stabbing which involved a large hunting knife nine inches long.

He is still being sought by the authorities in connection with Mr Bryan's murder. The prosecution say Hammad Hussain was the masked man who carried out the stabbing.

Michael Burrows QC, prosecuting, said there was a planned meeting in Birmingham between the accused in a car park which was covered by CCTV after the alleged murder.

He said: "He (Adam Carpenter) would have to go back to Redditch and he would need his car to do that and he would have to do what he could to avoid anyone seeing blood in it. That would mean cleaning it. And it would mean not staying with people who knew his car.

"Those involved in the murder were now embarking on a cover-up, trying to hide their involvement in the murder by getting Hammad Hussain out of the country and trying to hide his link to the getaway car, Adam Carpenter's Skoda.

"Fortunately for us, there was some CCTV covering the car park they went to. When the Skoda (Carpenter's car) arrived at 11.07pm, there were three other cars there, an Audi and two VW Golfs. This was plainly an arranged meeting. Faisal Fiaz got out of the front passenger seat of the Skoda and went to one of the Golfs.

"Hammad Hussain got out of the back of the Skoda. He had taken off his trousers and was now wearing shorts. He got into the other Golf, which was then driven away. Significantly after that it is to be noted that Saddam Hussain kept in touch with Faisal Fiaz by phone. You may conclude he was with Hammad Hussain.

"Adam Carpenter began to clean the back of his car. As I understand, he now accepts that is what he was doing. He changed out of the white hoodie he had been wearing and put on a dark top.

"After a while, AC drove away only to return to the car park just over half an hour later at 12.13am followed a minute or so later by the vehicle with Hammad Hussain in."

The prosecution say Saddam Hussain sent an email trying to book a flight for his brother later that morning from Birmingham Airport to Istanbul and another flight on to Islamabad.

Shortly after 5.30am CCTV at Birmingham Airport shows Saddam Hussain and Faisal Fiaz arriving there with Hammad Hussain.

The prosecution say Hammad Hussain was too late to board that flight and tried to arrange an alternative flight out of the country from Gatwick Airport.

By 5.10pm Hammad Hussain left the UK on his flight to Istanbul where he was to get another flight to Islamabad.

The trial continues.
