Worcester News readers shared their memories of the gig:
Linda Pritchett: "I was a few rows from the front. It was the Ziggy Stardust tour. I remember him climbing around the walls of the cinema during the concert.
"It seemed incredibly daring and avant garde at the time. It was probably the best concert I've ever been to, but I had earache and tinnitus for 24 hours afterwards. I was 19."
Nita Winters: "My sister Anne, a friend Annette and I went to see David at the Gaumont Worcester. It was the most exciting thing that we had every experienced. We loved him from day one of his Hunky Dory Album. He was our hero.
"After the concert we went up to the Cathedral and stood on the island looking up at the windows of the Gifford Hotel that was. We could see him there and he obviously could see us because he sent somebody down to fetch us up to him.
"We were taken to the dining area where we met David Bowie and Mick Ronson. It was a dream come true for the three of us. One which we have never forgotten. A moment of glory.
"The only other person that we saw there was Pete who had the men's clothing shop in the Golden Lion Arcade. I don't know where my autograph is now. Over the years and many moves later it has disappeared although my sister still has hers."
Dave Phillips: "A gang of us from school went, I forget how much the tickets were about 2 and 6p (12.5p) I guess.
"We had front row seats on the balcony and we didn’t really know what to expect but he came out and played all the tracks of his recently released The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars from memory he started with Lady Stardust, then Hang on to yourself and it went on from there.
"Many costume changes most of which are well documented. Great memories but where have all those years gone???"
Tony Teebee Symonds: "I too was at the gig and especially remember the guitar duel he had with Mick Ronson under a strobe light.
"Like Linda just him climbing all over the speakers."
Jill Taylor (nee Hodgkiss): "I saved my pocket money and managed to scrape together the £1.30 for a ticket.
"It was the first concert I had ever been to at age 15, and it was brilliant! Nothing has ever come up to that standard.
"I remember him (as Ziggy) climbing up the ornate walls at the side of the stage...and so many costume changes."
Marilyn Daly (nee Webb): "I was 19 and thrilled that David Bowie was playing in my city.
"He was so agile and impressive climbing around the walls at the side of the stage and his many changes of costume were awesome.
"He had such a rapport with Mick Ronson and I'll never forget that evening."
