A COUPLE from Worcester claim they have been unfairly fined by a private car parking company.
Martin Eversham of Warndon says he received the fine for allegedly leaving his car overnight in Brindley Road car park, but he says his car was on his drive all night. Mr Eversham said: “My wife went to the Tesco Express on the evening of November 5, she then left and went home. Early in the morning, the following day, I went to Greggs.
The two shops share the car park, along with some other shops. “They have now tried to say we stayed overnight in the car park – why would we do that when we live five minutes up the road? It was two separate journeys, taken by two separate drivers in the same vehicle. “There is obviously a fault with the cameras or someone isn’t checking them properly as they would have seen us coming in and out. I have now appealed the fine and will happily take it further. “We use this parade of shops a lot, but I have been put off going there now ,to be honest.”
The car park rules are enforced by Britannia Parking, a privately owned company. Worcester News contacted a representative of Britannia Parking, but did not receive a response. Signs displayed throughout the car park on Brindley Road state: ‘Camera Controlled 1.5 max hour stay. Terms and Conditions apply.’ On the website the company says: “All Britannia Parking car parks clearly display the Terms & Conditions which outline the conditions of parking and any Charges that will be incurred if a driver is in contravention of these Terms & Conditions.
Customers will be given a reasonable ‘grace period’ to purchase a valid Parking Ticket before the PCN is issued “Car parks monitored using automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology will have a Parking Charge Notice (PCN) issued via the post to the registered keeper of the vehicle. All PCNs issued at car parks patrolled by our mobile enforcement teams will have PCNs secured in a waterproof wallet to the windscreen.”
