The image shows a Waitrose shopping trolley dumped at the top of a popular beauty spot in Worcestershire.
The trolley is padlocked to the trig point at Worcestershire Beacon which is at a height of 425 metres - the highest point on the Malvern Hills and only accessible by foot.
Two good samaritans tried to lever the lock off but to no avail.
Members of a Facebook community page for Malvern, where the image was posted to, commented on the situation.
Mark Gill: "Resisting impulse to swear about the idiots who did this."
Gerry Davies: "Those all locks are not cheap, hopefully they will be caught when they come to retrieve it."
Mike Lane: "Too many morons roaming the Earth."
