CONCERNS have been raised about a plan to build new homes on a doctor's surgery car park.
Severn Valley Medical Centre off Ankerage Green in Warndon has put forward plans to build six new homes on part of its overspill car park but neighbours have said they fear it will only bring further parking chaos to the area.
The neighbouring school and community centre in Ankerage Green, as well as the parish council, have also all raised concerns about the plan.
The doctor's surgery has said the overspill car park is "underused" and often wrongly seen as a car park for shops when it is in fact private and only for the use of patients.
Governors at Lyppard Grange Primary School said they were concerned the homes would bring even more parking trouble to already-congested streets during peak times and expected more parking to be made available rather than see it taken away.
Commenting on the application to the city council, the school said: “Whilst recognising the undoubted demand for housing locally, the governing body has significant concerns about the implications of this development both in the longer term through the loss of car parking and the displacement of vehicles to neighbouring roads, and in the short-term during construction.”
“Any reduction in local parking capacity is likely to exacerbate an already concerning situation. As parking becomes more restricted, there is potential for poorer driving and parking habits to emerge which have the potential to put children at risk of injury.”
Trustees at Lyppard Grange Community Centre objected to the plan saying that during school drop off and collection, Ankerage Green was “impassable” due to parked cars and building homes would make it worse.
The community centre was also concerned it would hit fundraising as the charity regularly used the overfill car park for events.
Several neighbours also objected to the plan over traffic and parking fears.
Warndon Parish Council objected to the plan saying the land was not intended for homes and allowing them to be built would cause further parking chaos. The parish council also said building homes would jeopardise the popular summer fete.
Despite the concerns, the highways department at Worcestershire County Council raised no objection.
