A MOTHER is set to take part in an epic charity walk in memory of her son who was stillborn.

Jennie Ballinger, 42, from Rushwick was supported at the time of Luke’s death in 2005 by the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society (Sands) which also offered help to husband David, 48, and daughter Holly, who was two and a half years old at the time.

Jennie said: “After Luke’s death I was given a pack containing his hand and footprints as well as his hospital tag and this pack was provided by the charity.

“We were all struggling, and the charity also provided help on how we could deal with his death with Holly.

“There’s a stigma around this issue and people need to discuss it more and open up and the charity also helps with this, including offering a helpline.”

Between October 10 and 11, she will be walking 50K, walking from her home in Rushwick, to her family home in Tewkesbury and then back the next day.

Jennie added: “Losing a child has made me appreciate my family and friends so much more. "It has also taught me to be compassionate and be aware that people may be having a hard day and dealing with pain even though they appear to be okay on the outside.

“I am not a terribly fit person so will find walking this distance challenging.

"I teach at Rushwick Primary School and have been touched by the support of my colleagues who have sponsored me.

“Please help Sands to create a legacy of hope and comfort for every bereaved family and to ensure no-one endures baby loss alone.

“Together we can take thousands of small steps to show the world how much every baby is loved.”
