As a lifelong rugby fan, it saddens me to see Worcester Warriors are in danger as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Without a Premier League football team, Warriors provides one of our county’s few links to the world of elite sport along with the County Cricket Club, so the powers that be must do everything in their power to keep our club going. Sport is one of the few outlets we have for enjoyment in these dark times, so it would be heartbreaking if the club were to fold. Spare a thought also for the many hardworking employees whose livelihoods depend on the club thriving, they would be the real victims if the club went under. A Worcester without its famous rugby club is simply unthinkable, and would be devastating to the region’s economy. Sadly, though, it seems many businesses might follow a similar path. The government’s new measures, as unveiled by the chancellor Rishi Sunak will help save businesses, but surely there is more which can be done to help save iconic county businesses like Worcester Warriors?
