CONCERNS have been raised about a “dangerous” section of wall in Malvern which, it is feared, could collapse and damage the houses below.
The section of wall at Wyche Road has had the bank supporting the road cut back, trees cut down and a wall left in a state of disrepair as part of building work on a nearby house.

As a result, it is feared the road itself might not survive a period of extended bad weather.
District Councillor Paul Bennett said: “I decided to stop and see what was happening. I could not believe what was going on and immediately phoned officers at County Highways to let them know that there seemed to be a danger to this main road and possibly the houses below the excavations.
“I fear that this is another example where hard-pressed Council staff will spend considerable time and resources dealing with a situation that should never have arisen and may cost a fortune to resolve.”
Cllr Bennett said if the road were to collapse, it would cause havoc to anyone trying to access the Malvern Hills, which could negatively impact the Malvern tourist industry.

He added: “The consequences of a failure of the Wyche Road B4218 would be disastrous for residents and our tourism industry as we struggle through Covid and its legacy.”
A spokesman for Worcestershire County Council said: “We can confirm that we were alerted to a possible boundary wall collapse and the destabilising of land adjacent to and below a section of the Old Wyche Road during week commencing August 15.
“We attended and we continue to work with partners including South Worcestershire Building Control and the private landowner to re-instate the embankment supporting the wall and Highway.
“Weekly on-site inspections of the carriageway and embankment continue to be carried out whilst the re-instatement takes place.”
