AN investigation has been launched after a woman was reportedly attacked near a restaurant in Worcester - with a ‘gang with weapons’ seen nearby.
Police were called to Foregate Street Railway Station after a woman was earlier assaulted near Browns at the Quay restaurant in Quay Street.
West Mercia Police and British Transport Police (BTP) officers were called to Foregate Street Railway Station in Worcester on Saturday, June 20 at around 7.30pm, after receiving reports of a woman being attacked and a group believed to be carrying weapons seen nearby.
A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: “We were called to Foregate Street train station in Worcester at around 7.30pm, on Saturday, 20 June after reports from a member of the public with concerns regarding a group of young people gathering who may have had weapons.
“Officers attended and believed the group may have been by the fountains outside Browns restaurant when an earlier assault of a woman had taken place.
"The assault is currently being investigated.”
Anyone with information regarding the attack is asked to contact the police on 101, quoting reference number 0656S 200620.
BTP officers said they had been called to a “large disorder" at 7.34pm at the station and provided support to Worcester police officers.
As well as the assault, the transport police were also called after a man was found on the tracks in Malvern on the same night.
After a busy shift they Tweeted: "It’s been a busy shift for our late turn and BTP Specials so far, with a large disorder at Foregate St in Worcester, a male on the tracks in Malvern and a causality in Gloucester, to name a few!"
The following day they posted: "An already busy shift for our late turn and BTP Specials has ended with a line search with BTP Dogs and Network Rail West following reports of males trackside in Worcester.
"Then immediately called for another trespass in Malvern. Solid team effort tonight."
