A DRUG driver had no licence and no insurance while another motorist, high on cocaine, was stopped using a stinger after a police pursuit.

Officers from the Worcestershire Operations Patrol Unit have been busy stopping drivers on the M5 near Worcester and Droitwich for speeding and drug driving offences. A spokesman for the unit, part of West Mercia Police, said they stopped a Mercedes and Golf on the motorway at junction 5 (Droitwich) on Sunday.

The Mercedes had previously failed to stop for police in Gwent. A spokesman for the OPU said on Twitter: "The driver was arrested for a positive drugs wipe, no licence and no insurance. His mate had just bought the Golf. He also failed a drugs test and had no documents. The vehicle had been owned less than 30 minutes."

Both vehicles were seized. Officers from the OPU were also involved in a pursuit with a car from Worcester towards Martley on Saturday. The stinger was deployed and the vehicle boxed in by police cars. The driver was arrested for drug driving and tested positive for cocaine.

Meanwhile officers have continued speed checks as part of a national campaign. On Saturday three drivers were reported for excess speed on the M5. The highest recorded was 103mph and the driver already had 9 points for speeding, making him eligible for a ban. Last Friday a driver was caught at 95mph on the M5 between junction 7 (Worcester South) and 8 (Strensham). Checks revealed the driver has no licence or insurance and the car was seized.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, OPU officers attended a report in Evesham of TV's being sold from the back of a van.

An OPU spokesman said: "If you are offered electronics or jewellery on a car park, please don't buy them, its a scam and you will lose your money."
