A CAFE owner who put up shower curtains to protect customers from coronavirus has received a mixed reaction from readers.
As previously reported, Francini Osorio has bought 35 shower curtains and invested in a humidifier to purify the air at Francini Cafe De Colombia, ready for when customers return to his business in Angel Place, Worcester. Some readers hailed it as a 'great idea' while others said it would create more problems as the curtains themselves would have to be cleaned regularly.
Mr Osorio said: "We miss you so much that we have not stopped working to create a safe environment while complying with the current social distancing measures."
Mr Osorio secured the air purifier from Germany and the shower curtains from 'wherever we could find them', clearing out a few local stores of their stocks. He has spent around £2,000 on the air purifier and the shower curtains which divide up all 16 of the cafe's tables. Staff will wear gloves and masks when they return and hand sanitiser will be placed in the entrance. As previously reported, the cafe was given a lockdown revamp. Mr Osorio, who came to the UK from Colombia 33 years ago, gets the coffee from his own farm in Colombia. Mr Osorio says he hopes the Government can be flexible because, if people are forced to remain two metres apart, he believes 90 per cent of city businesses will close. Vonnie Carter said on Facebook: "What a great idea. I've never been there but will definitely try it out. These places need all the support they can get."
Martin Burd wrote: "Unfortunately from the photographs the owner would appear to have created more problems than he has solved."
Helen Mason-Bedford wrote: "Great idea but is he going to take down and clean each curtain between customers? Otherwise a bit pointless. But great to see people are thinking about it."
