AN Indian restaurant is handing out food vouchers to ‘unseen’ care home workers.
Ashleys Restaurant, in The Tything, has set up the scheme to support the heroic care home workers in Worcestershire.
Manager Amadur Rahman, said: “A lot of coverage has been to the struggles faced by our front line NHS workers, ranging from PPE shortages to facing empty shelves.
“Many individuals and businesses have stepped up, and rightly so, to provide much needed support, including allocated shopping hours, and free meals and discounts from takeaways.
“However limited coverage has been devoted to the plight of our care workers, who are facing similarly challenging work conditions, and in many cases even more so.”
Mr Rahman added: “The government had fallen short on testing of care staff and residents, and it had provided contradictory messages about how to shield vulnerable people.

“The dedicated staff risking their lives to provide this care have had little in comparison by way of support.”
Mr Rahman said he proposes to deliver vouchers exchangeable for meals from participating takeaways to deliver food to care homes, to show “these heroes that we appreciate and value them.”
He added: “The country has united together to support one another in these unprecedented times. Let us join together once again and support our heroes.
"Many care homes around the country are suffering similar shortages or equipment and other difficulties. They are the unseen heroes of this crisis and we wanted to do something to show our appreciation for their hard work and dedication.”
Mr Rahman is raising £2,000 to help fund the free meals during the coronavirus pandemic.
He said he is writing to other restaurants this week to ask them to take part in the scheme. To donate, visit www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/monwar-khandokar-1
