A LITTER PICKER has decided to use her downtime due to the coronavirus pandemic to improve her community.

Jen Boraston, 39, from Warndon Villages, said: “ I’m fed up of seeing litter all around as I walk my dogs, finding things like broken glass and food rubbish.

“I’ve done a few of the organised litter picks before, which we can’t do at the moment during lockdown, but that doesn’t stop me doing my own, especially on nice weather days.

“I love the countryside and litter picking is very satisfying to do and fun for all the family.

“I filled a bin bag walking the path from Woodgreen Drive to Tesco and another two bags exploring the hedges between Tesco and Vetch Field Avenue.

“We all have more time during lockdown and if just a few more people did similar self-volunteering acts - how much good can we do together.

“Litter pickers are cheap enough to buy and it’s something walkers can do while taking daily exercise.

“Even just bringing a bag with you and carefully collecting rubbish by hand will make a huge difference.”

Worcestershire County Council Councillor Andy Roberts said: “I want to thank all people who help support their community like Jen does.

“I’ve seen litter pickers out in the area doing their bit when I’m going out walking and they lead by example as far as I’m concerned.

“If we all did our bit and collected a bit of rubbish, then it would really improve the environment.

“I’ve given out litter pickers to a family of four recently and they take the tools out when they go out as a family and make it into a fun activity.

“People like Jen and others give us all light at a very dark time.”

Residents in Warndon Villages have also been actively collecting litter over the years, including a ‘superhero litter pick’ along Wainwright Road, in Warndon Villages, organised by Worcester City Council 2017.

The Friends of Warndon Villages, dressed in colourful masks and costumes, joined in with the litter-busting efforts and, in total, more than 30 bags full of rubbish at the time.
