English Symphony Orchestra will continue their ‘Beethoven 250’ celebration this weekend.
They will be joined by leading international cellist, Maja Bogdanovic, to perform Haydn in Malvern Priory on Saturday, March 14, from 7.30pm.
A spokesman said: “The English Symphony Orchestra (ESO) continue their popular series of concerts in Great Malvern Priory with a performance of Beethoven’s effervescent Symphony No.1, presented as part of the orchestra’s year-long celebrations of Beethoven’s 250th birthday and a guest performance by leading
French-Serbian cello virtuoso, Maja Bogdanovic, who plays Haydn’s much-loved Cello Concerto in C Major.”
But this concert is also about Beethoven, of course, and on offer will be Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1.
And by way of variety there will be a performance of Adrian Williams’ work, Russells’ Elegy.
Kenneth Woods will be the conductor.
A spokesman said: “The English Symphony Orchestra continue celebrations for Beethoven’s 250th Anniversary with his audacious and precocious First Symphony. At the time of its premiere, the young Beethoven had established himself as the most talented and controversial musician of his generation, and this symphony took his burgeoning fame to a whole new level.
“Beethoven’s music has featured prominently in the ESO’s repertoire since Kenneth Woods’ first concert with the orchestra in 2013, which concluded with Beethoven’s Symphony No.2. This concert marks the orchestra’s first performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No.1 in Woods’ tenure.”
