STAFF and pupils are appealing for help to enable them to get to London where they have reached the final of an art competition.

Pupils from St George’s CE Primary School have been invited by the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) to exhibit artwork as part of the annual art contest encouraging thought and concern for the planet’s environment.

The competition aims to help save endangered animals and habitats.

The project was led by part-time teachers Claire Horacek and Sarah Edwards.

Ms Horacek said: “The children are very excited about having their work exhibited in the Natural History Museum and are looking forward to having time, whist the completion is being judged, to look around the museum.

“The David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation does fantastic work conserving endangered wildlife and it’s been great to see the St George’s pupils getting enthusiastic about supporting the charity.

“If we are successful in our fundraising we will give excess funds to the DSWF.”

A funding page has been set up by the school. You can donate here www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/stgeorgesart.

The children have worked their Global Canvas entry based on this year’s theme - endangered.

In Art lessons, all 120 KS2 children focused on different aspects which involved endangered animals and habitats.

All of the elements were put together at an art club made up of enthusiastic pupils. Over three after-school sessions the school managed to refine pupils’ class work, had fun painting the background to show a frozen land, lush vegetation and a topical bush fire, created a forest, added flora and fauna and generally helped in assembling the whole work.. The final will be held at the Natural History Museum in London on March 12.
