Sir – Here we are in Worcestershire looking at continually rising flood waters, brown with the loss of top soil from our farms, about to overtop the recently constructed flood defences, wondering when, if ever, the Government will ever get the message.
With climate change the current clear trend for north west Europe is increasing intensity of rain and flooding events.
Climate change is caused by our burning of fossil fuels resulting in the release of additional carbon into the atmosphere.
Today we have the David Davis explaining our new immigration strategy which will dramatically reduce “unskilled” immigrants.
Apparently those sectors that have relied on unskilled labour for too long need to upskill and increase their productivity.
For “productivity” read “invest” in mechanisation, capital equipment, etc produced and powered by yet more fossil fuel consumption, and further exacerbation of climate change.
With the Climate Change Act, COP 24 etc the UK is allegedly committed to halving our fossil fuel use in 10 years’ time.
Would David Davis, or whoever, like to explain how and where fossil fuel reduction has been integrated into our Brexit strategy, or indeed any other area of government policy?
Part of the answer lies in the soil. Tread lightly!
