THE COUNCIL will be paying to fix slippy changing room floors at a city swimming pool after it has taken three years to get the work done.
Worcester City Council said it is "almost there" with treating the swimming pool changing room floors at Perdiswell Leisure Centre after the lack of work was raised as a concern in a report by Freedom Leisure.
Freedom Leisure, which runs the leisure centre on behalf of the city council, highlighted the lack of non-slip floors as a major 'weakness' in its annual report presented to the council's communities committee on Thursday (January 29).
Freedom Leisure also revealed the state of the changing room floor was one of its most complained about subjects.
Councillor Roger Berry believed the slippy changing room floors had been a problem “from the beginning” and asked why something had not been done sooner. He said he had raised the faults with the floor after receiving complaints from visitors.
However, Cllr Berry said he was pleased that action seemed to be taking place and the problem should soon be fixed but admitted the work should not have taken years to complete.
"Clearly it has been a matter of concern for some time," he said.
"The trouble is [the non-slip floor] should have been installed in the first place and clearly from [Freedom Leisure's] report it has been a problem for some time.
"I am pleased that work will soon be or is soon to be carried out but I really think it should not have taken what must be at least three if not four years."
Lloyd Griffiths, director for homes and communities at the council, said the council was prepared to pay for treating the changing room floors to bring them up to standard.
Mr Griffiths said the council was “almost there” with sorting the problem out.
The multi-million-pound Perdiswell leisure centre opened in January 2017.
