AN 'EYESORE' garage block and a shop could be demolished to make way for apartments, new plans reveal.

Select and Save, on the corner of Barbourne Walk and Pitchcroft Lane, would be demolished along with a "dilapidated and underused" garage block and replaced with a two-and-a-half storey block of six two-bed and five one-bed apartments.

Developers William and Jessica Burton said it would create a focal point and hopefully bring renewed generation to the area.

A statement included with the application said: "Our vision is to regenerate an underused site along with dilapidated garages which is currently and eyesore for the community.

"The new building will bring a vibrant living environment for young professionals with contemporary spaces that suit todays modern lifestyles.

"The development will deliver a fully integrated and carefully considered residential scheme on a constrained site that is bounded by Barbourne Walk and Pitchcroft Lane, which offers 11 apartments, six two-beds and five one-bed in a bespoke residential environment and which responds to the surrounding area and context.

"We want to create a development that responds to context whilst also being a contained, contemporary standalone design on an underused site made up of current low-quality housing and disused storage buildings.

"The scheme has been designed to provide both a contrast to the traditional residential development widely found within the surrounding area and to provide a contemporary, efficient form of development which will positively contribute to the areas character and appearance.

"Our aim was to provide much needed high-quality homes for workers near the centre of Worcester with great transport links into the city centre and beyond."

Consultation on the plan ends on February 17. The plans can be viewed via the planning section of the council's website. The application number is 19/00781/FUL.
