A CANNABIS farm which was dumped near an historic county landmark was cleared up by residents.

The Worcester News previously reported how bin bags full of compost, plant stalks, plastic containers and other rubbish were dumped in a visitors’ carpark next to Powick Mill on Friday night.

Director of Powick Mills, Juliet Wallace-Mason, said neighbours had banded together to help remove the waste.

She said: “I rang the police because I didn’t know what I would find in the bags.

“There were other bags containing other things like plastics and drums and so my issue was I didn’t know what was in there and didn’t want to come across something harmful in there.

“The police told me they would not remove the bags as the plants were not alive so we agreed (residents) to clear it on Saturday morning (January 11).

“As soon as it got light we came out and our neighbours and colleagues from Teme Acre Cattery came and helped us move all the rubbish, which took about four hours.

“As director I take my responsibility incredibly seriously to maintain Powick Mill for future generations.”

The car park where the bags were dumped is next to the Grade II listed building in Old Road.

Powick Mill was the first commercial hydro-electric power station in Europe and at one time powered half of Worcester.

By the 1930s the power station had closed down, and the site is now home to 10 houses, as well as the historic 165ft chimney stack.
