A PLAN to demolish a former pub and replace it with 14 new homes has been put forward.
Platform Housing Group has submitted a proposal to demolish the Coventry Arms in Stratford Road in Upton Snodsbury and build 14 affordable homes - including four flats, six two-bed homes and three four-bed homes.
Despite being outside the development boundary in the South Worcestershire Development Plan (SWDP), Platform said demolishing an empty building for affordable housing would be a better use for the site.

A statement included with the application said: “The site, being previously developed and reasonably adjacent to the village settlement boundary is locationally sustainable. The pub itself was commercially unviable and has been closed for some time, having had no interest from pub operators.
“The redevelopment of the site would improve it aesthetically and provide considerable benefits through the provision of social housing as identified in the housing needs survey submitted alongside this application.
“The proposed development would include the demolition of a former pub and the erection of much needed affordable dwellings.
“Although located outside of the settlement boundary of Upton Snodsbury and therefore in conflict certain aspects of the South Worcestershire Development Plan (SWDP), the re-use of a brownfield site and provision of much needed affordable housing outweighs the harm to the plan.”
The consultation on the plan ends on January 30.
The plans can be viewed and comments can be made via the planning section of Wychavon District Council’s website. The application number is 19/02621/FUL.
