A WOMAN has thanked a homeless man in Worcester after he helped her change a car tyre.

Andrea Diamond was waiting for a lift from her mum, Gail Robinson, outside Worcester Cathedral on Tuesday evening (December 17). However, when Mrs Robinson arrived, they discovered the car tyre was flat.

Mrs Diamond, aged 52 said: “The weather was so foggy and cold. We were waiting by the taxi rank. People were walking past us; they were too busy to help.

“This man appeared out of nowhere. He asked us to open the boot so he could get the spare tyre and change it.”

The family didn’t know the man was a rough sleeper until after, when he returned to his sleeping bag which is stationed outside All Bar One, in Cathedral Square.

Mrs Diamond said: “I stood there for 10 minutes complaining about the freezing cold waiting for our lift and I’m ashamed to say that I’d not even see him sat there.

“It’s Christmas, we should be thinking about what we have, not what we don’t. It’s heart breaking to see.

“He didn’t speak much. We had no idea he was homeless.”

Mrs Diamond, who has been living in Australia for 25 years but was originally from Worcester, is visiting her family as her dad is ill and had a heart bypass last week.

After the man had changed the tyre, Mrs Diamond gave him $20, adding: “We then saw him climb back into his sleeping bag, it was awful, so we gave another $40.”

She added: “It was such a beautiful thing he did. We never even thought to get his name – we didn’t think, it all happened so quick. I was so touched by his generosity. We’re extremely grateful.”
