A CHARITY is appealing for somewhere to relocate their clothing recycling banks following a request by Tesco to be removed by Christmas.
Daisychain Benevolent Fund has two clothing banks based in St Peter’s and Warndon Villages Tesco car park.
Greg Rowe, a trustee of the charity said: “This has come out of the blue and so close to the busy Christmas period.
“It’s worrying and quite short notice, so we are urgently appealing for another supermarket or business with a big car park to help us.”
The clothing banks, which have been situated on Tesco’s site for nine years, will be available until Christmas Day.
However, Tesco has announced the removal deadline has been extended by three weeks.
People donate their clothes to the bank which are emptied by volunteers and delivered to the charity shops in Worcestershire.

Mr Rowe added: “It’s such a shame. Tesco has supported our fundraising over the years and has helped us raise thousands of pounds.”
Reverend Stephen Buckley, who volunteers weekly to collect the donations said: “I know just how important the clothing banks are to the shops in this area.
“The money is used to fund vital medical equipment for the Riverbank Children’s Ward in Worcester and Teenagers living with Cancer.”

A spokesman for Tesco said: “We recently carried out a review of recycling areas across our store estate.
“This followed a number of serious and on-going issues with fly-tipping which forced us to remove recycling facilities from a number of stores.
“As a result of the review we have agreed to work with The Salvation Army to provide clothing banks and recycling areas at Tesco stores across the country. This agreement will ensure that we can continue to provide the recycling facilities our customers want, whilst ensuring that clothing donation banks at our sites continue to raise funds for charity.
“This agreement does mean that some charities have been asked to remove their clothing banks from our sites. We know how busy this time of year is for charities so in this case we’ve extended the removal deadline by three weeks.”
