SCHOOLS in Worcestershire have lost out on almost £80 million in funding since 2015 due to Government’s budget cuts, according to education unions.
The website schoolcuts.org.uk has published data which claims schools in the county have lost out on £79.8 million between 2015 and 2020.
The site displays the difference between funding and the amount it says is needed to protect per pupil funding in real terms.

The per-pupil loss figure shows the amount that has been lost for every pupil as a result of the reduced budget. In Worcestershire 192 of 226 schools have suffered from the cuts.
Councillor Marcus Hart, cabinet member with responsibility for education and skills, said: “I welcome the Government’s announcement to increase funding to help to improve the quality of education in Worcestershire for those children and young people with special educational needs. This funding will really help us to continue the positive progress the SEND improvement plan has made since its launch and help us to ensure all children are happy, healthy and safe.
“I also very much welcome the increase in funding that Worcestershire’s schools will be receiving from the Department for Education’s National Funding Formula. In Worcestershire the overall per pupil funding rates for the primary and secondary sectors will increase from £3,872 and £4,975 in 2019-20, to £4,065 and £5,180 respectively in 2020-21. This should go some way to relieving the financial pressure on Worcestershire schools and I am committed to ensuring that Worcestershire schools get their fair share.”

Andrew Richards, headteacher from Grimley and Holt CE Primary School, said: “The number of children at Grimley and Holt has increased from 85, to 105 over a three-year period. However, the total funding that we have been awarded has increased by less than £10k over the same period.
“It’s a familiar story everywhere; growing numbers of pupils, shrinking budgets and rising costs.
“The promise of extra funds by Mr Johnson look good, but analysts suggest over 80 per cent of schools will have less funding per pupil in real terms in 2020 than they did in 2015. Yet the demands on schools to continually improve standards increases each year.”
