AN INSPIRATIONAL mum is heading to Worcester this week as she continues to build on her son’s fundraising legacy by taking on a series of challenges for Stephen’s Story and the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Jane Sutton’s latest test will see her leading a team of runners at the Air Products Worcester City 10k race dressed as the Jamaican bobsled team that featured in the film Cool Runnings, complete with a 15ft mock-up bobsled.

Jane’s fundraising mission started in 2014 after her son Stephen died aged 19 following a year-long battle with bowel cancer.

Following his diagnosis, Stephen inspired millions with his bucket list to help raise £10,000, which had reached just over £2million by the time he died.

Today, the total stands at almost £5.7 million and Jane hopes that the Worcester City Run will help the charity to reach its £6 million target in 2019.

Jane said: “We wanted to do something to make people smile and to get us noticed, plus everybody loves the film Cool Runnings.

"Stephen’s legacy is incredible and we’re hoping to raise £6million this year. I wish Stephen was here to see it today.”

Delivered through a partnership between Worcester City Council and Events of the North, the Air Products Worcester City Runs will be held on Sunday September 15. Events include the Worcester City Half Marathon, Worcester City 10K and Young Athletes Run, which all take place in the city centre.

Places are available at worcestercityrun.com until midnight on Wednesday September 11, unless the races sell out.

Entries into the Worcester City Half Marathon cost £35 for unaffiliated runners and £33 for affiliated runners. Places on the Worcester City 10K cost £27 for unaffiliated runners and £25 for affiliated runners. Places on the Young Athletes Run (one mile for under 11s and 3K for under 16s) cost £8.
