A PRIMARY school has submitted a plan for a new nursery classroom.
Cutnall Green CE Primary School in Cutnall Green near Droitwich has asked for permission from Wychavon District Council to build a much-needed single-storey nursery classroom for its pre-school pupils.
The single-storey timber building would accommodate 24 three-to-five-year-olds to free up space and allow the existing pre-school classroom to be put to different uses.
Headteacher Emma Rowe said the school wanted to create the "best possible environment inside and outside" for its younger pupils.
She said: "The need for the new classroom has come from the fact that we are a thriving primary school and we want to offer the best possible learning environment for our children.
"We need to give them the proper facilities to learn.
"The design of the classroom means we can bring the outside inside.
"We have made sure the designs are very eco-friendly from the materials that are being used to ensuring it is insulated well so it is warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
"We think children thrive when they are outside and when they learn outside so it was very important that we created the best possible provision for them."
The building would sit within the school grounds and has been designed to blend into the leafy surroundings.
The classroom would sit hidden behind the main school building to minimise disruption to views from School Lane.
Money for the new classroom has been partly raised through the hard work of the Friends of Cutnall Green Primary School.
The group raised almost £4,000 this year to help pay towards the new classroom.
A statement included with the application said: “The benefit of this building will be significant to the school in ensuring the continued delivery of excellence and to free up space elsewhere in the school.
“The development will not have any adverse effect to the neighbouring buildings.
“The building will provide an ideal environment for early years children.
“The finished appearance of the development will enhance the character and visual amenities of the area and environment. The proposed building will be of a very high standard and uses natural materials that will complement the local area.”
