AN old fire station, suitable for property developers who want to build flats is on the market.

The fire station in Copenhagen Street has been left empty since fire chiefs relocated in 2015.

It was anticipated that the property would be turned into a gym and bar or a restaurant, and later it was decided it would be flats.

There is planning consent for residential conversion of the premises to 31 apartments.

It was anticipated the complex would attract big name businesses, but last year, developer Ash Mill – in the overview for the revised plan – said the “ground floor commercial accommodation has proved un-lettable.”

John Brown, company chairman, said uncertainty surrounding the economy due to Brexit maybe putting certain types of businesses off, particularly taking up residence in a ground floor space.

The commercial property is on the market with Fisher German. Their online brochure describes it as "a rare opportunity to create a high quality residential scheme in the shadows of Worcester Cathedral."

The building extends to around 27,000 sq ft.

The fire station was built between 1939 and 1941 and was designed by architect Percy Thomas. Mr Thomas also designed the former police station building directly opposite.

This prominent historical building in the city centre, which has been described as a landmark building, was in 2017 added to Worcester City Council’s in-house register of important structures, which aims at safeguarding any from demolition.
