KAY Barrett was the victor in this year’s Support Staff of the Year award, celebrating those who work behind the scenes to ensure schools and their pupils can thrive.
Mrs Barrett, school secretary at Bowbrook House School said she was already “overwhelmed” at the news of being a finalist.
After hearing she had won the award, she said: “I’m overwhelmed and want to congratulate all the finalists and winners, as well as everyone at the school: pupils, parents and staff.”
Mrs Barrett is retiring at the end of the current academic year and so the award is the perfect sign off as a celebration of her dedication and hard-work throughout the years.
When she was nominated for the award, Mrs Barrett said: “I was overwhelmed when I heard the news that I was nominated.
“I feel really humbled and honoured to be considered for this award.
“There are several other people worthy of this award so I would like to thank everyone who nominated and supported me.
“It is really wonderful to be recognised for doing the job I love and have done for the past 11 years.
“Bowbrook House School is a very special place, not only an excellent school but a family where everyone plays their part.”
Mrs Barrett said family is one of the most important things to her and thanked her husband John, sons David and Christopher and their families for their love and support.
Headteacher of Bowbrook, Christopher Allen was delighted when Mrs Barrett was announced as the winner.
He said of her: “She is the consummate professional and is the epitome of the school’s key values.
“Her calmness under pressure when faced with poorly children, busy parents, coach delays, road accidents and stressed teenagers, all are dealt with calmly and with good humour.”
Mrs Barrett was presented with her award by Heart of Worcestershire College leader in business sales & engagement Matthew Champion.
