AN EIGHT-year-old girl with Rapunzel-style locks bravely decided to have her hair chopped-off to raise money for charity, after her great aunt was diagnosed with leukaemia.

Despite only having two hair trims in her lifetime, Worcester schoolgirl Maggie Crawford was inspired to donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust, after seeing her great aunt Jacquie go through treatment for the condition.

Maggie’s mother, Sian Cox, aged 30, praised her daughter’s courage for taking on the challenge. “We are all extremely proud of Maggie,” she said.

“Until a few months ago she had never wanted a haircut and only had a few trims her whole life because she disliked them so much, and she wanted the longest hair possible.

“So, for her to do this to help those who need it more than her took a lot of courage, and to raise so much money for the Little Princess Trust is absolutely incredible.

“Everyone has loved her new haircut; she looks so grown up and she is beaming from ear to ear.”

Miss Cox added: “Maggie has really noticed the connection with illness and hair loss and has expressed numerous times since that she thinks it’s really sad that some people might miss their hair.

“A few months ago Maggie asked if there was a way to make a wig for someone from her hair, so we researched online and found the Little Princess Trust.

“When we read about the charity and the expense of making the wigs and that they depend on donations, she became determined to raise money for them and donate her hair to help make someone feel good about themselves.”

Family friend, Lesley Ford said: “It is such a big deal for Maggie as she has only had two or three trims her whole life because she hates a haircut and always wanted to have Rapunzel hair.

“But she thinks it’s more important for someone else to have her hair than her so they can feel pretty again.”

Duncan Brown, from Browns The Barbers in Droitwich, cut Maggie’s hair on May 11.

So far, Maggie has raised a total of £460 through her charity page on The Little Princess Trust.
