A PLAN to build 34 affordable homes and flats in Warndon has moved a step closer.
Sanctuary Housing's plan to build a mix of 14 two, three and four-bed homes and 20 one and two-bed apartments on the site of a former residential care home off Cranham Drive was backed enthusiastically by Worcester City Council's planning committee in February last year.
With work expected to start soon, a number of new designs and plans have been submitted to the council including earthworks, flooding and drainage plans, designs for landscaping around the site and garden layouts for each of the homes.
Approval of those plans is expected to be made by council planners in April.
Work is expected to take place between 8am and 6pm on weekdays and between 8am and 1pm on Saturdays.
Sanctuary Housing has also said it will exclude heavy good vehicle deliveries between 8am and 9am and then again between 3pm and 6pm to avoid school runs and rush hour.
No construction work will be carried out on Sundays and Bank Holidays.
The roughly rectangular brownfield site in Warndon which is bordered by Rodborough Drive, Brookthorpe Close and Chalford Drive has been left to waste ever since the care home was demolished in 2015.
The original plan by national social housing provider Sanctuary Housing was submitted to the city council in December 2017 and given the go-ahead by the planning committee in February last year.
A mixture of the homes and apartments will be available to rent with the remaining properties available for shared ownership.
The flats will be provided in four separate apartment blocks and will be a mixture of two and three storeys in height.
Each house and flat has at least one car parking and one cycle parking space allocated, with two and three spaces for properties with higher numbers of bedrooms.
Highways chiefs at Worcestershire County Council expect a 'slight' increase in the number of cars on the road when compared to when the site was a care home which had around 70 cars arriving and leaving a day.
The council expects cars to enter and leave around 30 times more a day which is seen as 'negligible' and can be accommodated without any changes.
