ANOTHER modified car meet-up is planned at Elgar Retail Park, just weeks after the site owner said action would be taken to prevent future such mass gatherings.

Legal & General said it did not give permission for the All-Mods organised event on January 13, which attracted hundreds of car enthusiasts and their motors.

Residents were upset by what they claim were high levels of noise, including revving engines and loud music, with the gathering lasting around four hours on a Sunday evening.

The next meeting is due to take place from 6pm on Sunday, March 17, according to the All-Mods Facebook page.

City councillor Jo Hodges spoke out against the original event and said she would liaise with the police and the site owners about introducing measures to prevent future occurrences.

An L&G spokesman had said they would “investigate what other options are available to discourage further incidents”.

However, Cllr Hodges, who represents Warndon, told the Worcester News this week the parties concerned had “not had time” to put any permanent preventative measures in place.

“I have been doing quite a bit of work with the managing agency and residents to see if barriers could be erected or what we could do as a permanent fixture there to stop this happening.”

She said she has notified the police and site managers about the upcoming event, but was shocked the group were returning so quickly despite the concerns from residents.

“The police and managing agency are taking appropriate action [regarding March 17],” she continued.

“I don’t want this to be an ongoing thing with them just putting up an announcement to say they are going to meet and then hundreds show up at short notice.”

The event title suggests the meet-up will be in Halfords car park, in one corner of ERP.

But the councillor fears it is likely the car park will be filled as it was in January or could be even bigger.

“The number of cars won’t be able to keep to that corner where Halfords is, it will spread over.”

She feared other nearby car parks, including Blackpole Retail Park, may also be used if there is enough overspill.

“There’s a lot of meeting places for a large number of cars to be accommodated,” she said.

She emphasised “it’s going to become a big problem” unless a grip on the issue is established.

“The representative from the managing agency was really quite surprised it had caused such a stir – they didn’t know about it.

“I told her it made front page, headline news in the local press. It’s caused major concern amongst the residents.

“It’s so intimidating to see revving engines and people playing loud music. You don’t quite know what that huge number of people will do. It could result in cars being damaged.”

L&G did not respond before to us and All-Mods did not wish to comment.

The last event raised just under £850 for St Richard’s Hospice in Worcester.
