A MUM from Worcester with two young children suffered a nightmare ordeal when her family was forced to move out of their flat by water damage to the ceiling.

Sammy-Jo Blount and her three children have had to move in with family after their flat in Crickley Drive, Warndon was flooded by a boiler leak in the flat upstairs.

Miss Blount, 24, said: “About 4am on Saturday morning we were woken up by what we thought was running water.

“I got out of bed and shut the window because we could hear the noise and thought it was rain it was so loud.

“The girl downstairs messaged me at the same time asking if our boiler was leaking but we looked and it was coming from upstairs.

“We had to get our daughter out of her cot because there were big cracks in the ceiling right above where she was sleeping.

“Our neighbour from upstairs came and confirmed it was her boiler that had burst and she couldn’t fix it.

“All our belongings are ruined and we have had to move in with our relatives.

“Because of all this we cannot live in our own home. We have got young children and it just isn’t right.”

Since then Miss Blount, her partner Jamie Quinn, 30, her seven year-old son Tyler and seven week-old daughter Ella have had to move in with family while they wait for repairs to be made.

She also said the family had turned down an offer from Fortis of temporary accommodation, saying it was not suitable for a newborn baby.

Fortis Living has said that the issue is being dealt with and the housing association has been in regular contact with the family to arrange repairs.

Catherine Cole, assistant director of communities and neighbourhoods (west) for Fortis Living said : “We received a report of a flood at the property from our out of hours service, and immediately contacted our customer and met with them at the property.

“We assessed what works were required at the property and we liaised with the customer every step of the way to work out what best suited their family, including the offer of temporary accommodation, which was declined.

“We acted as agreed with the customer at all times.

“Our contractors have been in daily contact with the customer providing updates and we are anticipating that the property will have dried out sufficiently for the works to be completed early this week.”
