MANOR Farm is a fantastic pub on the outskirts of the city, which serves up delicious, affordable food.

When I arrived on Friday afternoon I opted for a small carvery for £4.49, a dessert for £1.99 (as part of a two course meal deal) and a pint of Heineken for £3.90.

A friendly bartender gave me two tickets, one for the carvery and another for a sweet Belgian waffle, with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream.

The pub was quite busy for a weekday afternoon and had a pleasant atmosphere, with Motown music playing over the speakers.

I handed my ticket over to the carver at the hot counter and asked for gammon, chicken and beef, as well as a Yorkshire pudding.

To my surprise I got far more than I was expecting.

I then piled my plate high with roast potatoes, before adding some peas, stuffing and gravy.

The roasties were firm but delicious and all of the meat was tender and tasty.

The stuffing was a little tough but when mixed in with the gravy it was flavoursome and a nice addition to the meal.

The gravy was top class, it had a good consistency and a rich taste. It complemented the meat perfectly.

The gravy-filled Yorkshire pudding was also soft and tasty.

My only complaint was that my pint tasted atrocious.

It had a metallic quality and - despite the hammering Heineken usually gets from beer aficionados - was worse than normal.

After polishing off the not-so-tiny 'small carvery', I handed over my dessert ticket to the waitress and soon had an appetising waffle in front of me.

Had the waffle been cold, I think the dish would have been almost inedible, however as it was hot the ice cream melted all over it, turning the cardboard-like waffle into quite a sweet, tasty little dish, with a nice hit of chocolate thanks to the sauce.

After the meal I felt thoroughly full and was surprised by how little the whole lot had cost me.

I had a fresh meal, a dessert and a drink for £10.38 - that sort of value is almost unheard of these days.

The only downside was the poor quality pint.

Apart from that, I can’t recommend Manor Farm highly enough.

The service was brilliant, with friendly staff, there were plenty of options at the carvery counter, the portion sizes were very generous and it had a lovely atmosphere.

Manor Farm is part of the Stonehouse chain of restaurants, which specialise in pizzas and carveries.

I have been to both Manor Farm and the Toby Carvery in Worcester’s Bath Road and I have to say that I prefer the former.

The meat was tastier and the portion sizes were roughly about the same, although you face higher prices at Toby Carvery.

Manor Farm is on Malvern Road, on the outskirts of the city.

The building looks like a half-hearted imitation of a barn from the outside, like many other out-of-town restaurants.

It has a large car park, making it easily accessible for anyone with a car.

If you are looking for a local carvery, I would recommend Manor Farm - just watch out for the Heineken.
