There were fewer members at the September meeting because most of us were enjoying a holiday in Scotland. We stayed at Castle Douglas in Dumfries and visited two local WIs who made us very welcome. We also visited the Burns Centre, Culzean Castle, Threave Gardens and Tatton Park on the way home.

The weather was very kind to us (only one wet afternoon) and, of course, the scenery was magnificent - we had a most enjoyable time, thanks to Pat Davis who organised this.

The remaining colleagues had an informal meeting with Doris Francis in the chair deputising for Pauline. There was no speaker - a chatter evening seemed appropriate.

The half yearly council meeting is being held in October and some of the members will be going to this.

We meet on the third Wednesday of each month at the parish hall at 7.30pm and anyone who would like to join us will be made welcome. HILDA HUGHES
