A burglar took advantage of an open conservatory door to break into a house at night.

John Rowberry stole a £1,600 camera, £60 cash, 100 euros, a wallet and bank cards.

The owner of the property in Tagwell Road, Droitwich, came down in the early hours after he was woken by a noise, said Michael Conry, prosecuting.

He thought the wind had blown open the door, closed it and went back to bed.

Rowberry tried to obtain money from a cash machine in the town's Blake Avenue a few hours after the raid.

He was using the stolen card but was identified on CCTV, Worcester Crown Court heard.

Rowberry, aged 27, of Trent Close, Droitwich, pleaded guilty to burglary. He was jailed for 21 months.

At his address, numerous stolen cards were found, said Mr Conry.

The defendant had a previous burglary conviction in 1999. Other crimes on his record included deception, theft and perverting the course of justice.

Charles Hamer, defending, said although it was a serious offence with aggravating features, no damage had been caused at the targeted house.

Rowberry indulged in anti-social behaviour to feed a serious drug habit.

Mr Hamer added: "He took advantage of the open door. But his is not a lost cause and there is hope for the future."

Judge John Cavell said burglary was an invasion of a victim's home and could cause great trauma.

The householder was disturbed in the night but did not discover that goods were missing until next morning.
