A SCHOOL which has received two nominations for the Worcestershire Education Awards has been praised for their work with children with special needs.
Last week we reported that Great Malvern Primary School has been nominated for Primary School of the Year Award and was praised for their caring and supportive staff.
Now another nomination has been sent in by Michelle Hutchings, whose son attends the primary school.
She said: “The school treat children as individuals as opposed to a number.
"They recognise early on when children have complex needs and put measures in place to not only help children with complex needs but also other children within the school. The staff are all very friendly and supportive and children build fantastic bonds with the staff.
“My son has progressed within his education and despite having complex needs he has worked very hard with the support of his teachers to get to where he currently is.
"They are fantastic for putting on events and outings and making the children’s learning fun on all dimensions.
“Staff are brilliant and will always go above and beyond to help each child.”
Headteacher of the school in Lydes Road, Nikki Selby, said: “We are absolutely delighted and honoured to receive two nominations. We are incredibly grateful to have recognition of the school’s hard work.
“We are a highly inclusive school and all our children are treated equally. We offer a personalised approach to education to suit individual’s needs.
“If there is a child who struggles being outside with everyone during break time in an unstructured environment, we offer them activities during lunch times. This can include gardening, home work club, or arts and crafts.”
Great Malvern Primary School converted to academy status in August 2011 and became one of the founding schools of Mercian Educational Trust in November 2015.
The deadline for nominations for the Worcestershire Education Awards is April 18.
Finalists are chosen by a panel of judges and the winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at the University Arena on June 20.
