THE Mayor of Droitwich has thanked people from the spa's German twin town for their generous support during this summer's flooding.

An emergency fund received a donation of 1,000 or £693 from the people of Bad Ems after the German town's mayor advertised Droitwich's plight in a local paper.

Bad Ems Mayor Josef Oster and Twinning association chairman Wolfgang Heuser made the appeal after hearing how homes and businesses in the spa town had been badly affected by flooding in July.

Twinning association members, the town's council, the Arzbach tennis club and residents sent money to the fund which was set up by the Mayor, the Rotary clubs of Droitwich and the spa's Lions club.

Droitwich Mayor Councillor Richard Morris, Mayor of Droitwich Spa said 'We really appreciate all the support and thoughts from our twin town.

"The money in the flood fund is already helping pay for the High Street coordinator for the traders as well as going towards carpets, removal payments and white goods for households affected."

He added: "There is no doubt the floods have caused much distress and many are still not able to get back to normal as their houses and shops are cleaned out and set up for them to use again."

Coun Morris and Droitwich twinning association chairman Peter Field will now write to thank the people of Bad Ems and invite them to visit Droitwich next June to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the twinning relationship.

The latest total figure for the fund was put at £7,500 with the money going towards helping those most affected by flooding.
