A PERSONAL trainer who crashed his car into a cottage has pleaded guilty to drink driving.

David Burtoft, who owns DB Fitness Personal Training, which is based in Droitwich, said his behaviour was 'completely out of character'.

The 29-year-old drove his BMW through a garden wall and hit a cottage, in Hanbury, near Droitwich, on January 5.

Nicola Ritchie, prosecuting, said: "At about 4.30am, the defendant was driving his vehicle on Hanbury Road.

"The vehicle collided with a cottage, damaging the garden wall, which he had driven through.

"He remained at the scene. [Police] officers attended and spoke to him. He admitted driving at the time of the collision."

Ms Ritchie said the police constable who attended the incident smelt alcohol on Burtoft's breath.

The defendant, of Ross Crescent, Inkberrow, later failed a breathalyser test.

Burtoft, who was defending himself, said: "I'd like to apologise for what happened.

"I've had my licence for 12 years. It's completely out of character for me. It was a complete misjudgement."

The defendant, who has no previous convictions, told the court he set up his personal training business five years ago.

He said he would probably lose 25 to 30 per cent of his income as a result of losing his licence, because some of his clients live in remote areas.

Worcester Magistrates Court banned Burtoft from driving for 18 months on Thursday.

The court also told him to pay a £300 fine, a £30 victim surcharge and £135 in court costs.
