A MAN who died following a car crash on the A44 in Fladbury has been named as 18-year-old Shaun Smith from Evesham.

Mr Smith, a refuse collector from Hipton Hill Caravan Site, Lenchwick, died after the red Vauxhall Corsa he was driving towards Evesham collided with a blue Renault Modus travelling in the opposite direction.

The incident took place at around 7.25pm on Tuesday, October 2.

A woman passenger in the Corsa was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital in a critical condition suffering from serious facial injuries.

Two men, also Corsa passengers, and the female driver of the Renault were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The A44 at Fladbury was closed for around five hours after the collision and diversions were put in place.

Worcestershire Coroner Geraint Williams, is expected to open an inquest later today.
