A FATHER has spoken about the moment he delivered his son on the bathroom floor just five hours before the family was due to move home.

Electrician Dominic Wall was called into action after his partner of 10 years, Vickie Evans, went into labour and gave birth at their home in Kempsey.

The couple contacted the Worcester News in response to a series of articles on hairy babies because their newly-born son, Rylan, also has a full head of hair.

Mr Wall, aged 27, said he had only just got into bed after a long day at work when Miss Evans' waters broke about five weeks ago.

"I'm glad I did it but in many ways I wish I hadn't," he said.

"When our first child was born he was four weeks early and Vickie had a lot of doctors around her.

"They said this time I could get more hands on but I didn't expect to do that much. To be honest I'm quite squeamish about blood but it just takes you over and you just handle it."

Miss Evans, aged 25, said the whole experience took them by surprise because staff at Worcestershire Royal Hospital told them her contractions suggested she was only in the very early stages of labour.

However, experts talked Mr Wall through the proceedure over the phone before paramedics and a midwife arrived just after the birth.

Miss Evans said she was checked over before going to bed but her partner could not sleep.

"I think he was in shock," she said. " He cleaned the bathroom up and just carried on packing."

The couple then proceeded to move to their new home in Bedwardine Close, Rushwick, the following morning. "Rylan's five-weeks-old now and he was five-hours-old when we moved house," said Ms Evans. "It's a day we will always remember."

Since then Ms Evans said Ryaln has been attracting a lot of attention from members of the public. "My little boy is quite hairy," she said. "His hair is dark brown and curly. There's lots of people who are really jealous. People stop us in the supermarket all the time."

However, it is not the first time Ms Evans has given birth to a hairy baby.

She said Rylan's older brother Vinnie, aged two, also arrived with a magnificent mop. He had a full head of hair as well but not as much as his little brother," she said.
