A HAIRDRESSER crashed her car after drinking two glasses of wine.

Amy Cullen lost control of her vehicle while trying to stop her phone from slipping off the seat next to her.

Cullen, aged 24, of Worcester Road, Droitwich, pleaded guilty to drink driving in London Road, Worcester.

Mark Lister, defending, said: "She went out for a social drink and had one glass of wine.

"Then she had a distressing telephone call from her sister, who suffers from mental illness, that put her in a fluster.

"She unwisely had a second glass of wine before getting in her car."

Mr Lister said the defendant crashed after she tried grab her phone, which was sliding off the seat beside her.

He added: "She had a panic attack at the scene, which is why she was assisted by a person who came out of his home and [she] went into his house.

"She's distraught about being here."

The solicitor handed the magistrates a letter from Cullen's employer, Toni & Guy, in Worcester, stating that she was a good worker who was held in high esteem.

He said the defendant had never been in front of the courts before.

Magistrates were told that Cullen had dropped a passenger off at their home, just before the crash took place.

Nicola Ritchie, prosecuting, said Cullen smashed her Ford Fiesta into a parked vehicle at around 10pm on October 22.

The solicitor added that a resident heard the crash outside their home and spotted the defendant climbing out of her car.

The court heard that the man then took the defendant into his home, where she was treated by paramedics.

A probation worker said Cullen drank most weekends and described herself as a social drinker.

They added that the hairdresser, who has had a driving licence since she was 17, suffers from panic attacks and previously had depression.

Worcester Magistrates Court disqualified Cullen from driving for 26 months and ordered her to complete 80 hours of unpaid work.

She was also told to pay £135 in costs and an £85 victim surcharge when she appeared in court on December 13.
