A CYCLIST is in a life threatening condition after a crash between a lorry and a bike.
The cyclist was airlifted to a major trauma centre after the crash which happened on Wednesday afternoon in Colwall, Malvern.
Police say the collision took place after the cyclist was going downhill along the B4218 Walwyn Road when the DAF LF lorry was travelling uphill in the opposite direction.
Police believe the cyclist wobbled and collided into the side of the lorry before tumbling down the road. An ambulance, a paramedic officer and two BASICS doctors were sent to the scene.
The cyclist suffered a suspected head injury so was taken by ambulance to Strensham, then airlifted to University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire where he is currently in a life threatening condition in intensive care.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Ambulance staff responded to reports of the collision which had left the cyclist with serious injuries.
“On arrival, they found a man who had come off his bicycle, though the circumstances were not clear.
“After treatment at the scene, the man was taken by ambulance on blue lights to the Strensham Airbase where the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford was waiting to airlift the man to the major trauma centre at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.
“The lorry driver was uninjured.”
Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which happened at about 4.10pm, to call them on 101 quoting 520s.
