You may have thought we had had the best of the red fruits after summer, but now's the time that autumn-fruiting raspberries are coming into their own. Stems or canes should have been supported all summer to stop them being flattened by the wind, the large amounts of rain we've had and the weight of the fruit. They also benefit from a mulch of partially composted dead leaves, twigs, straw, wood shavings or pine needles on a regular basis, to create the acidity that the plant needs to grow well.
