A MUSICIAN from Worcestershire who was searching for a drummer to complete his 60s rock and roll band has found his man.

Roger Brown, aged 63 from a village near Tenbury Wells appeared in the Worcester News at the beginning of September saying he wanted to get his band No Agender back on the road.

But he was one band-member short - a drummer - and he appealed for anyone interested in joining his band to get in touch.

Mr Brown received seven replies following the article being published, with ages of applicants ranging from 15 - 63. And after some auditions, they managed to decide on Worcester drummer David Chandler.

"As a result of the article we got a good response. So it was very successful. We had people apply from Malvern, Bromsgrove and Worcester, so we were very pleased with that," he said.

His search for a drummer began after he was recovering, after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last November. Following major surgery he spent six months undergoing treatment and it was then he decided he wanted to keep the band going.

He was anxious to get his fans foot-tapping again but he found it difficult to find an experienced drummer keen to learn and work with his popular band.

At the age of 16, Mr Brown turned professional, working, recording and touring with some of the lead artists of his time - including The Shadows, John Leyton, Gene Vincent, Johnny Kidd and Joe Brown.

In 1963 his previous band the innocents supported The Beatles Tour.

Three years ago he made the decision to revive the Fifties and Sixties with his wife Judy on bass guitar and double bass, and a Herefordshire man on rhythm guitar.

With the band now complete, No Agender will start rehearsing at the beginning of this week to prepare themselves for a gig at Berrington Hall in Herefordshire on Sunday, November 4, and a special gig at Mr Brown's village hall in Knowbury on Saturday, November 17.
