THE top job at Worcestershire County Council is to be re-advertised after the authority turned down all the candidates.

The new chief executive should have been appointed on Wednesday, but an interviewing panel was not satisfied they had found the right person.

Your Worcester News previously reported how the current chief executive Rob Sykes is retiring in December after more than 10 years to spend more time with his family.

It is not known how many people applied for the £170,000-a-year job but a short-list of three candidates were interviewed by the council's appointments panel.

Leader of the council Dr George Lord, who chaired the panel, said: "Whilst we saw some very talented people, we were not satisfied that we saw the candidate we are looking for as our next chief executive."

A county council spokesman said an appointment should now be made within two months.
