FAMOUS auctioneer Philip Serrell appeared at a phone box which is becoming an unusual meeting spot for celebrities.
The Bargain Hunt star appeared at the Powick phone box which has become an unusual trademark spot for a local charity Crossroads Caring for Carers.
Helen Simmons is the manager of the Worcestershire branch of the charity which employs both paid staff and volunteers and offers support and respite to people who have caring responsibilities. They aim to help and support those in need of homecare services in any way they can with an approach that is both professional and sympathetic whilst at all times maintaining the dignity and self-respect of clients.
Fully trained and qualified care support workers have many years experience of looking after other peoples loved ones.
Ms Simmons said: "We support people with care needs and also the carer.
"It is important to support family based carers, people who care for family members at home. It’s a hard role, it’s not a chosen role. Some of them can be caring for 10 years, for example, if they are caring for someone with dementia, and they can get so tired. They just need a break.”
Philip is the latest in what Ms Simmons hopes to be a long list of celebrities to appear at the phone box. Ms Simmons said: “We adopted the phone box and the idea behind it, is that it would be for recruitment days, and to make it famous so people will have heard about it. This will raise awareness of what we do and people will get behind us.”
Tony Adams who played the character Adam Chance in the programme Crossroads Motel, which was the inspiration behind the charity, agreed to be the charity’s patron. The 1973 programme featured a story line where a young man is paralysed in a car accident and his mother is left to care for him.
Mr Adams has also appeared at the phone box, which is located on a crossroads, as well as Mayor of Worcester Jabba Riaz .
Ms Simmons said about Philip's support: "It's really exciting to have him on board and he was very kind."
The auctioneer also appeared in Worcester recently to at the Worcester Stands Tall Auction.
